Smoking policy at Antalya, Antalya Airport (AYT)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking is strictly forbidden inside all terminal buildings (Terminal 1, Terminal 2, and Domestic Terminal). Smoking before security is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminals. Vaping rules are not explicitly stated; treat vaping the same as smoking and use only outdoor designated areas.
Antalya Airport is one of the rare major European hubs that actually offers outdoor smoking terraces airside, after security, in all three of its terminals. Smoking inside any terminal building is strictly forbidden, but the open-air terraces integrated into the gate areas make this a genuinely smoker-friendly airport by international standards.
Before Security
Landside, smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal buildings. There are no indoor smoking rooms before security. If you need a cigarette after check-in but before going through security, you will need to step outside the terminal entrance. Re-entry rules are not officially published, so factor in extra time if you plan to smoke landside and then return through security.
After Security
This is where Antalya stands out. All three terminals offer open-air smoking terraces accessible after the security checkpoint, which the airport itself describes as available in "very few airports worldwide." Each terrace faces the apron and runway, giving you a direct view of aircraft movements while you smoke.
Terminal 1 (International): Outdoor smoking terrace after security, integrated with the gate area. Traveler reports note it can get crowded, with limited seating. The terrace is positioned so shopping and food outlets remain easily accessible.
Terminal 2 (International): Outdoor smoking terrace after security near the boarding gates. The floor plan (image 13) shows the smoking zone on the right-hand side of the terminal, adjacent to the gate concourse. Rated 5/10 by travelers on InDepartures, suggesting basic facilities.
Domestic Terminal: Outdoor smoking terrace after security, similarly integrated with the gate area. The floor plan (image 11) shows the smoking zone on the left side of the terminal.
Vaping Rules
The official airport website does not specifically address vaping or e-cigarettes. Turkey has national restrictions on vaping in public indoor spaces, so treat vaping the same as smoking: use only the designated outdoor terraces and avoid vaping inside the terminal buildings.
Transit and Layovers
If you are transiting through AYT and remain airside, you can access the smoking terrace in whichever terminal you are in without any additional cost or lounge membership. This is a genuine perk for long layovers.
Bottom Line
AYT is unusually generous for smokers: free, open-air terraces with runway views are available after security in all three terminals, so you do not need to pay for a lounge or exit the secure zone to smoke airside.
