Da Nang International Airport (DAD)

Da Nang International Airport (DAD) is one of the more smoker-friendly airports in Vietnam, with designated smoking areas in both terminals, both before and after security. The setup is well-organized by Vietnamese airport standards, with clearly marked rooms and outdoor zones, though the exact layout has shifted over the years as the airport has expanded.

Before Security

Landside smoking is available at several spots in Terminal 2 (International), all in the public area:

• Ground floor arrivals hall: Two outdoor-style smoking zones at pillars 01 and 08, accessible to arriving passengers and meeters/greeters.

• Second floor departure hall: Two more public smoking areas, one to the right side of Entrance B and one to the left side of Entrance A. These are accessible before you check in or pass through security.

Terminal 1 (Domestic) also has a public smoking area on the mezzanine floor in the departure zone, accessible before security.

Image 1 shows a well-designed outdoor smoking shelter with curved architectural styling, bench seating, built-in ashtrays, and greenery around the perimeter. This is the kind of designated zone you will find landside.

After Security

Both terminals have airside smoking rooms past the security checkpoint.

Terminal 2 (International) - Restricted Areas:

Two enclosed smoking rooms are located on the 2nd floor after security. To find them, turn left or right after clearing the security checkpoint and walk to the far end of each corridor. Traveler reports from February 2026 confirm both rooms are still open. One traveler noted the smoking room is right next to the prayer room. An earlier report from 2023 placed one room at the far end of the terminal near Crystal Jade Kitchen. Images 0 and 10 show the glass-walled enclosed smoking room entrance in the international terminal, with blue signage and a no-smoking icon on the door.

Terminal 1 (Domestic) - Restricted Area:

One smoking room is located on the 2nd floor after security. As of January 2026, a traveler confirmed the domestic departures smoking room is now near Gates 1, 2, and 3 at the bottom of the escalators or lift. An October 2025 report described it as "very new and clean" and located downstairs near Gate 3. Image 11 shows the "Phong Hut Thuoc / Smoking Lounge" sign above the entrance near the gates area in the domestic terminal.

Vaping Rules

Vaping and e-cigarettes are illegal throughout Vietnam, not just at the airport. Do not bring vaping devices or e-cigarettes into the country.

Transit and Layovers

If you are transiting through DAD, the airside smoking rooms in both terminals are accessible after security, so you do have options during a layover without needing to exit and re-enter.

Bottom Line

DAD is genuinely accommodating for smokers: you have public areas before security and enclosed rooms after security in both terminals. Smoke before you board, and you will not struggle to find a spot.
