Smoking policy at Eindhoven, Eindhoven Airport (EIN)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking and vaping are prohibited inside the terminal, on all terraces, on the apron, in all parking garages, and at the bus terminal. The former airside smoking room near The Bar by Bavaria is permanently closed as of early 2024. The Bavaria terrace airside displays active "Non smoking / vaping terrace" signs; smoking there is against airport rules despite informal use by some passengers.
Eindhoven Airport operates as a fully smoke-free terminal, meaning you cannot smoke anywhere inside the building, on the terraces, on the apron, in the parking garages, or at the bus terminal. The only place you can smoke is on the forecourt directly in front of the terminal entrance, before you pass through security. Once you go through security, there is no legal smoking option available anywhere airside.
Before Security
The forecourt (voorterrein) outside the terminal entrance is the single designated smoking spot at EIN. It is an open-air area at ground level, directly in front of the terminal building.
No other landside areas are permitted: the terraces, parking garages (P1, P3, P4, P5), and the bus terminal are all explicitly smoke-free.
Plan to smoke before you enter the terminal, as re-entry after security is not a realistic option at this compact airport.
After Security
There are no smoking facilities airside. A smoking room existed in the past near "The Bar by Bavaria" on the upper floor, and an outdoor terrace associated with that bar was used informally by smokers for some time. However, as of early 2024, airport staff confirmed the smoking room is permanently closed. Image 3 shows the Bavaria terrace airside with a prominent "Non smoking / vaping terrace" sign, confirming the ban is actively enforced there. A December 2024 traveler report noted that despite the no-smoking signs, some people were still smoking on that closed terrace, but this is against the rules and you risk being asked to stop.
There are no paid lounges at Eindhoven Airport that offer a smoking area or smoking terrace as an alternative.
Vaping Rules
Vaping is treated identically to smoking under Eindhoven Airport's policy. It is banned everywhere except the forecourt outside the terminal. The Bavaria terrace airside explicitly prohibits vaping as well, as shown by the signage in the photo.
Transit and Layovers
If you have a layover at EIN and need to smoke, you would need to exit the secure zone, go to the forecourt, and then re-clear security. Given the airport's compact size, this is theoretically possible time-permitting, but the airport does not officially facilitate or advertise this option. Check with your airline before attempting it.
Bottom Line
Smoke on the forecourt before you enter the terminal, because once you are past security there is nowhere legal to smoke or vape at Eindhoven Airport.
