Smoking policy at Busan, Busan Gimhae International Airport (PUS)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking outside designated areas may result in a fine of up to 100,000 KRW. Electronic cigarettes are only permitted in designated smoking areas. All post-security smoking rooms in the domestic terminal are closed as of 2021.
Gimhae International Airport has a strict no-smoking policy inside all terminal buildings. All smoking is confined to designated outdoor booths or, in the international terminal, a single indoor smoking room near Gate 11 airside. The domestic terminal is the more restrictive of the two: once you clear security, there is no way to smoke until you land.
Before Security
Both the domestic and international terminals have outdoor smoking booths on the landside (before security). These are your best bet if you have time before check-in.
Domestic Terminal, 1st Floor (Arrivals): Head outside through Gate 4, next to the bus ticket office near New York Burger. An outdoor smoking booth is right there.
Domestic Terminal, 2nd Floor (Departures): Exit through Gate 4 and turn right to find another outdoor smoking booth.
International Terminal, 2nd Floor (before security): Outdoor smoking areas are reported near Gates 1 and 4 on the landside.
There are no smoking areas on the 3rd floor of the domestic terminal.
After Security
Domestic Terminal: There are zero smoking options after you pass through security. All post-security smoking rooms in the domestic area have been closed (confirmed as of 2021). Plan to smoke before you go through the checkpoint, because you will not get another chance until you arrive at your destination.
International Terminal: There is at least one indoor smoking room on the 2nd floor near Gate 11, airside. A floor map (image index 5) shows the location pinned in the gate area between Gates 8 and 11. This is the only confirmed post-security smoking option at PUS. A separate map (image index 6) shows smoking area pins near the international departure hall, including spots near Gates 1 and 4 on the landside side of the international terminal.
Vaping Rules
Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are subject to the same rules as conventional cigarettes. They are only permitted in the designated outdoor smoking booths or the designated indoor smoking room in the international terminal. Using them anywhere else inside the terminal is prohibited.
Transit and Layovers
If you are transiting through the domestic terminal and need to smoke, you would need to exit the secure zone, use an outdoor booth, and then re-clear security. There is no confirmed re-entry policy published in the sources, so check with airport staff before doing this. For international transit passengers, the smoking room near Gate 11 in the international terminal is the practical option.
Bottom Line
Smoke before security in the domestic terminal, because there is nothing airside once you are through. International terminal travelers have one confirmed smoking room near Gate 11 after security.
