Smoking policy at Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Gran Canaria Airport (LPA)
Gran Canaria Airport (LPA), also known as Las Palmas Airport, maintains a traveler-friendly smoking policy, offering designated areas both before and after security checkpoints. This is a welcome feature for many passengers, especially given the typically strict smoking regulations within most European airports. For those departing or arriving, smoking is permitted in clearly marked outdoor zones located outside the main terminal buildings. These areas are easily accessible before you proceed to check-in or security, allowing for a final cigarette before entering the secure zone. The most significant provision for smokers at LPA is the large outdoor smoking terrace available after security. This area has been consistently reported by travelers as a convenient and spacious spot. Recent updates confirm its continued availability, with the latest information from April 2023 indicating a "huge smoking terrace" is still present. To locate this area, once you have cleared security and exited the duty-free shop, turn left. You will encounter a sign, and shortly after, two pillars on your right. Opposite these pillars, on the left side of the corridor, you will find an entrance leading to stairs or a lift. Ascend to the upper level, which is conveniently situated opposite Gate C10. The expansive smoking terrace will be on your left. Adjacent to this main smoking terrace, you will also find the Playa Padre cafe. This establishment features its own outdoor seating area where smoking is permitted, providing a comfortable environment to enjoy a drink or snack alongside your cigarette. It's important to note a recent change: while there was previously an area with direct views of the runway that allowed smoking, this specific section has now been converted into non-smoking seating for the cafe. Therefore, while you can still smoke on the main terrace and at Playa Padre, the prime runway-viewing spot is no longer available for smokers. Travelers should always look for official signage to confirm designated smoking zones and adhere to local regulations to avoid any penalties. The airport's commitment to providing these facilities makes LPA a relatively accommodating airport for smokers.
