Smoking policy at Doha, Hamad International Airport (DOH)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking outside designated areas inside the terminal is prohibited and may result in fines or penalties. Vaping and e-cigarettes are banned throughout the entire terminal, including inside smoking rooms. Outdoor smoking before security is restricted to designated zones outside the terminal buildings only.
Hamad International Airport officially describes itself as a strictly non-smoking facility, but in practice it is one of the more smoker-friendly major hubs in the world. Dedicated smoking lounges are available airside in every concourse (A through E), so you will not need to exit the secure area during a layover just to have a cigarette.
Before Security
Landside, smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal buildings. There are no indoor smoking rooms before security. If you need to smoke after check-in but before clearing security, you will need to step outside the terminal entirely.
Outdoor designated smoking zones are located outside the terminal entrances.
No indoor smoking is permitted in the check-in hall, arrivals hall, or any other landside area.
After Security
Once you are airside, you will find enclosed smoking lounges spread across all five concourses. These rooms are fitted with smoke extractors and comfortable seating, and they are free to use for any passenger with a boarding pass. No lounge membership or payment is required.
Concourse A: Smoking lounge next to Gate A1.
Concourse B: Smoking lounge just before Gate B1, on the left.
Concourse C: Two lounges, one at Gate C4 and one just before Gate C13.
Concourse D: Smoking lounge opposite Gate D20.
Concourse E: Two lounges, one just before Gate E1 and one opposite Gate E20.
All lounges follow the same design: enclosed glass-fronted rooms with frosted panels, ventilation extractors, and seating. The blue "Smoking Lounge" sign above each entrance makes them easy to spot from the concourse walkway. You can also ask at any information desk or use the airport's digital map to locate the nearest one.
Vaping Rules
Vaping and e-cigarettes are completely prohibited inside the terminal, including inside the designated smoking rooms. This is an official airport policy and reflects Qatar's broader restrictions on vaping. Do not assume that because you are in a smoking room, vaping is acceptable. It is not.
Transit and Layovers
For transit passengers on long layovers, the airside smoking lounges are a genuine convenience. Because lounges are present in every concourse and are free to access, you do not need to leave the secure zone at any point. Just follow the signs toward your gate area and look for the blue-lit "Smoking Lounge" signage.
Bottom Line
Smoke outside before security, or use one of the free enclosed smoking lounges scattered through every airside concourse. Vaping is banned everywhere in the terminal, no exceptions.
