The primary confirmed option is designated outdoor smoking areas outside the terminal building, and there is at least one reported airside smoking area in the departure lounge. Vaping is banned throughout Vietnam, so leave your e-cigarette in your bag.
Before Security
Smoking landside is permitted in designated areas outside the terminal. These are standard outdoor zones that any passenger or visitor can use before going through security. No specific signage or exact location within the terminal forecourt has been documented in available sources, but the general rule across Vietnamese airports is that outdoor designated spots near the terminal entrance are available.
After Security
A traveler named Sue T. confirmed in March 2024 that a smoking area was available in the departure lounge next to Gate 6. This is the most current and specific report for airside smoking at HUI. An older, unconfirmed report also mentioned the possibility of smoking at a cafe in the departures area, but this has not been verified recently and should not be relied upon.
Transit and Connecting Flights
If you are connecting through HUI, be aware that you may need to exit the terminal, smoke outside in the designated landside area, and then re-clear security before your onward flight. The airport currently handles primarily domestic routes (Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City), so most connections will be domestic-to-domestic, but the exit-and-reenter process applies regardless.
Vaping Rules
Vietnam has a nationwide ban on e-cigarettes and vaping products. This applies at all airports including HUI. Do not attempt to vape anywhere in the terminal or on airport grounds.
Bottom Line
