Smoking policy at Milan, Milan Linate Airport (LIN)
Smoking at Milan Linate Airport
Smaller than Malpensa Airport, Linate has a less complicated smoking situation. The best public smoking area at Linate is around Gate A16 after security. If you have lounge access, the Leonardo Exclusive Lounge offers a more comfortable place to smoke.
Before Security
Pre-security smoking is largely restricted to the area outside the terminal building.
This is the easiest option if you arrive early, or if you wish to smoke before entering the departure area. However, do not return outside after clearing security unless you have enough time to pass through the checks again.
After Security
After security, Milan Linate has at least one public smoking area and one lounge-based smoking option.
The main public smoking area is reported to be a glass box near Gate A16 on the first floor of departures. It has ashtrays, mostly standing room, and enough space for about a dozen people. It is not a lounge-style space, but it works for a quick smoke before your flight. More recent airport guide sites mention the smoking area at Gate A16.
Some sources mention a smoking box near Gate A10. Others say the smoking area is between Gate A16 and Gate A17. The A16 / A17 area is the more consistently mentioned location and should be easy to find by following airport signs or asking terminal staff for the smoking room between the A gates.
Leonardo Exclusive Lounge
A separate smoking area is located inside the Leonardo Exclusive Lounge. This is a more comfortable option, but it is not a public smoking room. You will need lounge access, a qualifying card, or paid lounge entry where available. The official Milan Linate lounge services page lists a smoking area, and the Leonardo Exclusive Lounge also has a separate smoking section listed through Priority Pass.
If you prefer a seat, proper tables, and a less basic environment, it is probably worth using the lounge if you have a longer wait before boarding.
Closed or Less Reliable Areas
Older reports about smoking rooms at Linate are not fully consistent. Some mention Gate A10, while others mention Gate A16. Treat Gate A16 as the stronger reference and follow airport signage on the day of travel.
The lounge smoking area follows the same access conditions as the lounge itself, so do not rely on it unless you know you can enter the lounge.
Vaping at LIN
Linate does not clearly separate smoking and vaping for passengers, so the safest approach is to treat them the same.
Vaping is prohibited in the terminal, near boarding gates, in toilets, restaurants, shops, or lounges unless you are inside a designated smoking area or airport staff confirms otherwise.
Practical Advice
In practice, smoking at Milan Linate is fairly easy because the airport is compact and the smoking areas are not too spread out.
After security, look for the smoking area near Gate A16. If you have access, the smoking area inside the Leonardo Exclusive Lounge is the better option. Before security, smoking is only allowed outside the terminal building in designated outdoor areas.
Smoking is allowed only in designated smoking areas. Follow airport signs and leave enough time to get back to your gate before boarding.
