Warnings & Caveats
Smoking and vaping inside the terminal or near building entrances is prohibited by airport rules. Smokers must dispose of cigarette butts in the designated containers at the Door 6 outdoor area. Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are subject to the same restrictions as traditional tobacco products inside the terminal.
Myrtle Beach International Airport (MYR) is officially a non-smoking terminal, meaning you cannot light up anywhere inside the building. The only designated smoking area is outside Door 6 in the Baggage Claim area, landside. Vaping is also prohibited inside the airport premises, so e-cigarettes and similar devices must be used at the same outdoor spot.
Before Security
The single designated outdoor smoking area is your only option at MYR:
Outside Door 6, Baggage Claim level (landside): This is the airport's official smoking spot. It is an outdoor area accessible to anyone, located at street level near the baggage claim exits. Disposal containers are provided, and the airport specifically asks smokers to use them. This area is also where the taxi stand and one of the pet relief areas are located, so it can be a busy spot.
After Security
There are no smoking facilities airside at MYR. Once you pass through security, there is no way to smoke without exiting the terminal entirely. If you need to smoke after clearing security, you will have to exit through baggage claim, smoke outside Door 6, and then re-enter and go through the TSA checkpoint again. TSA operates from approximately 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m., so factor in queue times before doing this, especially during busy morning or evening departure banks.
There are also no pay-per-use or airline lounges at MYR, so there is no lounge smoking option either.
Vaping Rules
The airport's FAQ explicitly states that vaping is not permitted anywhere inside the terminal. The Rules and Regulations page confirms that electronic cigarettes fall under the same restrictions as traditional tobacco products. Use the outdoor Door 6 area if you need to vape.
Transit and Connecting Flights
If you are connecting through MYR on an international itinerary, you will need to clear U.S. customs and immigration, collect your bags, and exit the secure zone before you can smoke. You then go back through the TSA checkpoint for your onward flight. Given MYR's small size and relatively short security lines outside peak hours, this is usually manageable, but allow at least 30-45 minutes to be safe.
Bottom Line
Smoke before you go through security at the outdoor spot by Door 6; once airside, there are zero options and no lounges to fall back on.
