Smoking policy at Nashville, Nashville International Airport (BNA)

Warnings & Caveats

Smoking in unauthorized indoor areas carries fines starting at $50, with higher penalties for repeat violations. Smoking within 25 feet of any terminal entrance or exit is prohibited under Tennessee state law. If you exit to smoke after clearing security, allow 15-20 minutes to re-clear TSA screening. The Travelers Post Lounge closes at 7:30 PM daily; no airside smoking is available after that time.

Nashville International Airport (BNA) bans smoking and vaping throughout all interior terminal spaces, including gates, restaurants, and restrooms. The only airside option is the Travelers Post Smoking Lounge on Concourse B, and landside smokers must use designated outdoor zones. Plan your timing carefully, especially if you need to re-enter through security.

Before Security

Outdoor designated smoking areas are available on all three levels of the terminal building:

  • Ticketing level (departures): step outside past the 25-foot boundary marked from terminal entrances and exits.

  • Baggage claim level (arrivals): same rule applies, look for bright "Smoking Area" signs.

  • Ground transport level: additional outdoor spots are signed.

Tennessee state regulations prohibit smoking within 25 feet of any terminal entrance or exit, so you'll need to walk a short distance from the doors before lighting up. Ashtrays are provided at the designated spots.

Re-entry note: If you go outside after clearing security, you will need to go back through TSA screening. Budget at least 15 to 20 minutes for that process before your boarding time.

After Security

The Travelers Post Smoking Lounge on Concourse B, located between gates B8 and B10 (Level 3, Departures), is the only indoor smoking option at BNA. Entry costs $10, which includes free coffee and snacks; the lounge also has a bar for additional purchases. Cigars, cigarettes, and vaping are all permitted inside. Veterans and active military enter free with a valid ID. Hours are Monday through Sunday, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM. The lounge is ventilated and staffed, and travelers have noted a cozy, well-maintained atmosphere.

Note that the former Graycliff Boutique and Lounge on Concourse B, and the smoking lounge near gate C10 on Concourse C, are both permanently closed as of 2022. Do not count on those options.

Vaping Rules

Vaping and e-cigarettes are banned throughout all interior terminal areas, the same as combustible tobacco. The Travelers Post Lounge explicitly permits vaping inside, making it the only place airside where you can vape legally.

Transit and Layovers

If you have a layover and want to smoke outside, you will need to exit the secure area and re-clear TSA. With only one airside lounge (and limited hours), the Travelers Post is your best bet for a short connection. If your layover is on Concourse C or D, factor in the walk to Concourse B.

Bottom Line

Smoke outside before security for free, or pay $10 to use the Travelers Post Lounge on Concourse B after security. There are no free airside smoking options at BNA.
