Warnings & Caveats
Smoking and vaping are strictly prohibited inside all enclosed areas of the terminal building. Smokers must exit the building and use only the designated outdoor areas. There are no post-security smoking options; re-clearing TSA is required if you exit to smoke after check-in.
PSP is a smoke-free building, but designated outdoor smoking areas do exist on both the arrivals and departures levels outside the terminal. If you need a cigarette, you will have to exit the building entirely, which means once you are past security, you cannot smoke airside at all.
Before Security
Smoking is permitted outside the terminal building in clearly marked designated areas:
Departures level (upper level): Look for the designated outdoor smoking zone near the departures exit. Signage and ashtrays mark the spot.
Arrivals level (lower level): A second designated outdoor area is located near the baggage claim and ground transportation exits on the lower level.
Both spots are easy to find once you step outside. The airport map confirms smoking icon markers at the terminal perimeter, consistent with these curbside outdoor areas.
After Security
There are no airside smoking areas at PSP. Once you clear the TSA checkpoint and enter the Sonny Bono Concourse (Gates 4-11) or the Agua Caliente Concourse (Gates 12-20), you cannot smoke anywhere. The post-security area is an open-air courtyard with dining and shops, but smoking is not permitted there.
The only post-security lounge is the Aspire Lounge, located between Gates 4 and 6 in the Bono Concourse. It is accessible to Priority Pass members, American Express Platinum cardholders, and walk-in guests paying roughly $40-$45. However, the Aspire Lounge does not have a designated smoking room or terrace, so lounge access does not give you a place to smoke airside.
Vaping Rules
Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are treated the same as traditional tobacco at PSP. Vaping is prohibited inside all enclosed areas of the terminal. You must use the same designated outdoor areas as cigarette smokers.
Transit and Layovers
If you have a layover at PSP and need to smoke, you will need to exit the secure zone, use one of the outdoor curbside areas, and then re-clear the TSA security checkpoint to return to your gate. PSP is a small, single-terminal airport, so the security line is generally short, but factor in extra time if your layover is tight.
Bottom Line
Smoke before you clear security at the outdoor curbside areas on the departures or arrivals level. Once airside, there are no smoking options at all, and the Aspire Lounge does not provide a workaround.
