Smoking policy at Phu Quoc, Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC)
Warnings & Caveats
Vaping is completely banned in Vietnam by law. Do not use e-cigarettes or vaping devices anywhere at the airport or on the island. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas. Smoking elsewhere in the terminal can result in fines.
Phu Quoc International Airport (PQC) does permit smoking, but only in designated areas. The most reliable option before security is stepping outside the terminal building, where designated outdoor smoking spots are available to anyone. Airside, there are enclosed smoking rooms on both the domestic and international sides, though reports on their current status vary.
Before Security
Smoking is permitted in designated areas outside the terminal building on the landside. No specific outdoor zone is named in available sources, but the standard practice at Vietnamese airports is to use the area just outside the main entrance doors before you check in or after you collect your bags.
The CIP Lounge in the domestic terminal is noted to include a smoking area, though access is restricted to lounge guests.
After Security
Domestic side: A smoking lounge was reported to exist behind the Burger King in the domestic departures area. The traveler who found it in November 2017 noted the glass doors were wide open, lights were off, but fans were running, suggesting it was operational but lightly maintained. No more recent confirmation of this exact spot is available, so treat it as a possible but unverified option.
International side: As of October 2023, a smoking room is located close to the Heineken beer bar in the international departures area. This is the most recently confirmed airside smoking spot at PQC. A sign for a smoking lounge on the international side was also spotted through the glass partition as early as 2017, and the 2023 update near the Heineken bar appears to confirm something is there.
Vaping Rules
Vaping is banned throughout Vietnam, including at all airports. Do not attempt to vape anywhere inside or outside the terminal. Penalties can include fines and confiscation of devices.
CIP Lounge (Domestic)
The domestic terminal CIP Lounge is listed as offering a smoking area among its amenities (alongside Wi-Fi, snacks, flight monitors, and TVs). Access is typically for business class passengers or those who pay a walk-in fee, though specific pricing is not confirmed in available sources. The international terminal Business Class Lounge, by contrast, is described as a non-smoking area, so do not count on smoking there.
Bottom Line
Your safest bet is to smoke outside the terminal before security. Airside, head to the smoking room near the Heineken beer bar in international departures, or look for the lounge behind Burger King on the domestic side, keeping in mind that the domestic spot has not been confirmed recently.
