Smoking policy at Medford, Medford Rogue Valley International Airport (MFR)
Warnings & Caveats
No smoking is permitted inside the terminal at any point, before or after security. Connecting passengers who want to smoke must exit the building and re-clear security, which takes additional time.
Rogue Valley International-Medford Airport (MFR) is a small, single-terminal domestic airport in Medford, Oregon, and smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal building. There are no indoor smoking rooms or lounges anywhere inside the terminal, either before or after security.
Before Security
Your only option for a smoke is to step outside the terminal building entirely. Designated smoking areas are located outdoors, away from the terminal entrances. The airport has not published a detailed map of these spots, but they are typically found near the curb outside the departures level. Look for posted signage directing you to the nearest designated zone.
No indoor smoking facilities exist on the landside (pre-security) side of the terminal.
Smoking is restricted to specific outdoor designated areas; lighting up anywhere else outside the terminal is not permitted.
After Security
There are no smoking facilities of any kind airside at MFR. Once you have cleared the security checkpoint, you cannot smoke until you exit the secure zone and return to the outdoor designated areas outside the terminal.
Transit and Connecting Flights
If you are connecting through MFR on an international itinerary (rare, given the airport handles domestic routes only), you would need to fully exit the terminal, smoke in the outdoor designated area, and then re-clear security before your next flight. For domestic connections, the same applies: you must exit the building, use the outdoor area, and go back through screening. Factor in extra time if you plan to do this, as security lines can be unpredictable during peak periods.
Vaping Rules
The sources reviewed do not specifically address vaping or e-cigarettes at MFR. Given that Oregon has broad indoor clean-air rules and the airport bans all indoor smoking, it is safest to assume vaping is treated the same as smoking and restricted to the outdoor designated areas only.
Bottom Line
Smoke before you go through security in the outdoor designated areas outside the terminal, because once you are airside there is nowhere to smoke at MFR.
