Sanya Phoenix International Airport (SYX)

Sanya Phoenix International Airport provides smoking areas before and after security in the building. The airport's own website lists several smoking areas in the Domestic Terminal, and 2 in the International terminal, so SYX is not a completely smoke-free airport for passengers who know where to look.

Before Security

Smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal buildings, prior to security.

Smoke-free airport information indicates there are outdoor smoking places in the domestic terminal on Level 2 by several domestic departure doors, and by domestic arrival doors on Level 1, and south of the airport bus station.

According to the airport information, smoking areas are located on the east side of the parking lot in front of the international terminal and in front of the international departure hall.

After Security

The best known post-security smoking areas are in the domestic terminal.

The closest reported smoking area on site from up to date sources, is located in the French Garden inside the domestic terminal controlled area near the CDF pickup point on the north side, and is a garden-style outdoor smoking area.

Earlier reports also mentioned smoking areas outside the automatic isolation gate in the east side of the terminal's first floor, and outdoor smoking areas in the Domestic Departure Hall's first and second floors.

International Terminal

The Central Garden of the International Terminal is the main older reported post-security smoking area for international departures.

The airport also has two smoking spots, one at the parking area in front of the international terminal and another near the entrance to the international departure hall.

Vaping at SYX

Annunciations at SYX do not distinguish between vaping and smoking. Treat vaping like smoking, and only use designated smoking areas, unless airport personnel clarify otherwise.

Practical Advice

Check the French Garden, the Level 1 area on the east side, or the outdoor smoking areas in the domestic terminal. For international flights, check out the Central Garden, or the areas signposted from the entrance to the international terminal.

Smoking is permitted only in smoking areas. Look for signs that say Smoking Area / 吸烟区, and allow enough time to return to your gate.
