Warnings & Caveats
Iran has a national ban on vaping and e-cigarettes. Do not use or carry vaping devices at this airport or anywhere in Iran. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas; smoking elsewhere in the terminal is not allowed.
Smoking at IKA is limited to designated areas, but there are more options here than at many Middle Eastern airports. Landside, you can smoke outside the terminal buildings before going through security. Once airside, a traveler report from 2018 identified four smoking areas, three of which are accessible to general passengers.
Before Security
Smoking is permitted outside the terminal buildings in designated outdoor areas before you pass through security. There are no indoor landside smoking rooms reported.
After Security
According to a traveler report from June 2018, there are four smoking areas past security:
Left wing of the terminal (after security, turn around): a designated smoking area is located next to the entry point of the terminal wing.
Right wing of the terminal (after security, turn around): same setup as the left wing, a smoking area sits just beside where you enter the wing.
From passport control, straight ahead and down to the left: a small cafe that doubles as a smoking area.
From passport control, straight ahead and down to the right: a smoking area inside the business lounge (access conditions for this lounge are not confirmed in available sources).
The terminal floor plan (see image) shows a dedicated smoking room symbol on the lower level, near the CIP and First Class lounge area, which aligns with the business lounge report above.
Vaping Rules
Iran has a national vaping ban. Do not bring e-cigarettes or vaping devices into the country or use them at the airport. This is a legal restriction, not just an airport policy.
Transit and Layovers
If you are transiting through IKA, the transit lounge area is shown on the terminal map between passport control and the check-in hall. The smoking cafe reported near passport control may be accessible to transit passengers, but this is not confirmed. Check with airport staff on arrival.
Bottom Line
You have real airside smoking options at IKA, including two public-access areas near the terminal wings and a smoking cafe near passport control. Leave vaping devices at home entirely, as Iran bans them nationwide.
