Zadar Airport (ZAD)

Zadar Airport (ZAD) currently operates with a limited smoking policy, primarily accommodating smokers in designated areas located before the security checkpoints. Travelers should be aware that the policy regarding smoking facilities, especially after security, has undergone significant changes recently due to ongoing construction and airport developments. Before passing through security, passengers will find options to smoke. There are designated outdoor areas situated outside the main terminals, offering a conventional space for smokers. Additionally, the airport hosts a cafe that includes a dedicated smoking area, providing a more sheltered option for those wishing to smoke before their flight. These facilities are generally accessible to all passengers and visitors. However, the situation after security has drastically changed. As of a May 2025 update, the previously available outdoor terrace for smokers, which was a popular feature near Gate 5 and offered views of the aircraft, is now closed. This closure is a direct consequence of extensive construction works currently underway at the airport. The update explicitly states that smoking is no longer tolerated between the main airport building (after security control) and the temporary tent housing the gates. This means that once you have passed through security at Zadar Airport, there are currently no facilities whatsoever for smoking. Historically, Zadar Airport had excellent smoking facilities after security, including a large outdoor terrace that could be used for both international and domestic flights following Croatia's entry into the Schengen Area. However, these facilities are no longer operational. Therefore, travelers who smoke are strongly advised to make use of the designated areas before security and plan their time accordingly, as there will be no opportunities to smoke once airside. It is always recommended to check the latest airport information upon arrival, but based on the most recent reports, the after-security smoking options are non-existent.
