There is no landside (before security) smoking area listed on the airport's official services page. Both confirmed smoking areas are located in the departure halls on the 2nd floor, which are accessed after check-in and security screening. If you need a cigarette before going through security, your only realistic option is to step outside the terminal building entirely.
After Security
Two smoking areas are confirmed airside on the 2nd floor:
Domestic departure hall: Located opposite the cafe on the 2nd floor. This is the spot to use if you are flying a domestic route within Kazakhstan.
International departure hall: Located near Duty Free on the 2nd floor. Convenient for international passengers waiting to board.
