Smoking policy at Nha Trang, Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR)
Warnings & Caveats
Vaping and e-cigarettes are banned nationwide in Vietnam under national law. Do not use e-cigarettes or heated tobacco products anywhere at the airport. Smoking is only permitted in designated areas. Smoking elsewhere in or around the terminal may result in fines under Vietnamese public health regulations.
Cam Ranh International Airport officially provides designated smoking areas for passengers, and the airport's own facilities page confirms both air-conditioned and open-air options are available. The most prominent smoking facility is a large, purpose-built outdoor smoking zone located landside in front of the terminal building, clearly visible from the drop-off road and marked with a bold "Smoking Area" sign. This is one of the more thoughtfully designed smoking setups you'll find at a Vietnamese airport.
Before Security
The main smoking area at CXR is a generous open-air structure situated directly outside the terminal, on the landside forecourt. From the images, it's a wide, covered pergola-style canopy with decorative wooden slat roofing, flower planters along the perimeter, and seating. It appears to span a substantial footprint across the drop-off area, with multiple bays visible. The airport lists this facility as available 24/7. A second, separate smoking zone is also visible in aerial images of the forecourt, suggesting more than one designated spot landside.

After Security
The airport's official facilities page mentions designated smoking areas but does not specifically confirm airside (post-security) smoking rooms within the departure halls. No traveler reports or official maps in the available sources confirm a dedicated smoking room past immigration in Terminal 2 (the international terminal). If you are departing internationally, plan to smoke before clearing security, as airside options are not confirmed by available sources.
Terminal 1 (domestic) similarly has no confirmed post-security smoking area in the sources reviewed.
Vaping Rules
Vietnam has a national ban on vaping and e-cigarettes. The Vietnamese government prohibits the import, sale, and use of e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products. Do not vape anywhere at this airport, including in the outdoor smoking zones. This is a legal restriction, not just an airport rule.
Transit and Layovers
If you are transiting through CXR on an international connection, access to the landside smoking area would require exiting the secure zone, which is generally not possible for transit passengers. No airside smoking facility is confirmed, so transit passengers may not have access to any smoking area during their layover.
Bottom Line
Smoke before you check in at the well-equipped outdoor smoking canopy on the terminal forecourt. Once airside, no confirmed smoking option exists, so time your last cigarette accordingly.
