Smoking policy at Dubrovnik, Dubrovnik Airport (Čilipi International Airport) (DBV)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking is prohibited throughout the terminal building indoors under Croatian law. Vaping indoors is also likely prohibited under the same rules, though not explicitly confirmed for DBV. Sources on the exact location of the airside smoking area vary slightly; the Gate 24 spot and the 2nd-floor terrace may or may not be the same location.
Dubrovnik Airport (DBV) does permit smoking, but only in specific designated spots both landside and airside. The most useful thing to know is that there is a confirmed smoking area after security, so you do not have to rush a cigarette before your gate. That said, options are limited and the airport is otherwise a non-smoking building throughout.
Before Security
Landside, smoking is only permitted outside the terminal building in designated outdoor areas. Croatian law prohibits smoking in all indoor public spaces, and the airport enforces this strictly. You will need to step outside before clearing security if you want to smoke on arrival or before check-in.
Head outside through the main terminal entrance and look for the designated smoking zone.
No indoor smoking rooms exist on the landside.
Keep in mind that re-entry after security is not confirmed as an option, so plan accordingly.
After Security
This is where DBV is more accommodating than many smaller airports. Multiple traveler reports confirm a dedicated smoking area exists airside:
Opposite Gate 24 in the international departures area: a smoking area confirmed by multiple travelers since at least 2016 and as recently as 2019.
Open terrace on the 2nd floor: reported by a traveler in July 2022 as a large open terrace accessible after security. This appears to be in or near the Non-Schengen area upstairs.
An August 2025 update specifically mentions a smoking area in the Non-Schengen area upstairs, suggesting this option remains active at time of writing.
The gate 24 spot and the 2nd-floor terrace may refer to the same general area or two distinct spots; reports are not fully consistent on this. If you cannot find one, look for the other.
Airport Lounge
There is a lounge at DBV located airside in what was formerly Terminal A. The sources describe it as accessible via a lounge membership program, but no specific smoking permission inside the lounge is mentioned. Do not count on the lounge as a smoking option unless you confirm it directly.
Vaping
No specific vaping rules are mentioned in any of the available sources for DBV. Croatian law treats vaping similarly to smoking in indoor public spaces, so assume the same designated-area rules apply and avoid vaping inside the terminal.
Bottom Line
You can smoke after security at DBV, most reliably near Gate 24 or on the 2nd-floor open terrace in the Non-Schengen area. Landside, step outside the terminal to the designated outdoor area before you check in.
