Smoking policy at Fez, Fès–Saïss Airport (FEZ)
Warnings & Caveats
Morocco enforces smoking bans in enclosed public spaces. Smoking outside designated areas inside the terminal can result in fines. Always look for "Zone Fumeur" signage and do not smoke in general seating or café areas.
Fès-Saïss Airport (FEZ) has a clear split between landside and airside smoking options. The most notable spot is the Caffè Vero smoking terrace airside, past security in the departures area, which is a semi-open outdoor terrace attached to the café and clearly signed as a "Zone Fumeur." Landside options are limited to stepping outside the terminal building.
Before Security
Smoking is only permitted outside the terminal building on the landside. There are no designated indoor smoking rooms or enclosed areas before security.
You'll need to exit through the main entrance doors and smoke in the open air outside. Keep in mind that once you've checked in and passed through security, re-entry is not guaranteed without going through the full security process again.
After Security
The Caffè Vero café airside operates a dedicated outdoor smoking terrace, signed in French as "Zone Fumeur." The terrace is accessed through large glass folding doors from inside the café, has seating with umbrellas, and appears to be a semi-covered open-air space with views of the terminal exterior. It was confirmed active as of November 2024.
A separate report from the Sleeping in Airports guide mentions a designated smoking area near the Hudson kiosk in the boarding area airside. This may be a second distinct spot or refer to the same general airside zone.
Two lounges operate airside: the Aspire Executive Lounge (open 7:00 AM to 11:00 PM, pay at the door or via lounge pass/membership) and the Pearl Lounge (open 24 hours, pay at the door or via lounge pass/membership). Neither source explicitly confirms smoking is permitted inside these lounges, so do not count on them as smoking options.
Vaping Rules
No specific information about vaping rules at FEZ is available from the sources. Morocco's general indoor smoking regulations apply, so treat vaping the same as smoking and use only designated areas.
Transit and Layovers
If you have a layover and are already airside, the Caffè Vero terrace is your most reliable confirmed smoking spot. The airport is small with a single terminal, so finding it should be straightforward once you are past security and in the departures hall.
Bottom Line
Smoke outside the terminal before security, or use the Caffè Vero "Zone Fumeur" terrace airside after security. Airside access to smoking does not require a lounge membership.
