Smoking policy at Prestwick, Glasgow Prestwick International Airport (PIK)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking in enclosed public spaces is banned by law in Scotland. Individuals who smoke anywhere other than in designated areas are liable to a fixed penalty fine of £50. No smoking is permitted inside the terminal building, at the railway station, or anywhere after security. Connecting passengers must exit through passport control, smoke outside, and re-clear security, which adds significant time.
Glasgow Prestwick Airport (PIK) operates a strict outdoor-only smoking policy in line with Scottish law, which bans smoking in all enclosed public spaces. There are no smoking facilities of any kind inside the terminal building or after security, so your last smoke before a flight must happen outside, landside, before you enter the terminal or pass through security checks.
Before Security
Smoking is permitted only in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal building. The airport is clear that you must use these marked zones and not smoke immediately outside the terminal doors, on the forecourt, or near entrances.
Look for the designated smoking areas signposted outside the terminal before you enter.
The terminal at Prestwick is compact and single-building, so the outdoor smoking area is a short walk from the main entrance.
Vaping and e-cigarettes follow the same rules as cigarettes: outdoor designated areas only, not inside the building.
After Security
There are no smoking or vaping facilities airside at Glasgow Prestwick. Once you pass through security, you cannot smoke until you land at your destination. There are no paid lounges at PIK with smoking terraces, and no workarounds.
Transit and Connecting Flights
If you are connecting through Prestwick on an international-to-international itinerary, you will need to enter the UK through passport control, go outside to the designated smoking area, and then re-clear security for your onward flight. Given PIK's compact size this is physically possible, but it adds significant time and you should factor in the full security re-entry process before deciding whether it is worth it.
Vaping Rules
Vaping is treated identically to smoking at Prestwick. The same outdoor-only designated areas apply. Note that since 1 June 2025, single-use disposable vapes are no longer legal to sell in the UK, so travel with a rechargeable, refillable device. The Tobacco and Vapes Act 2026 introduced further advertising restrictions but does not change the airport's physical vaping policy.
Bottom Line
Smoke before you enter the terminal in the designated outdoor area; once you are through security at PIK, there is nowhere to smoke until you reach your destination.
