Smoking policy at Ibiza, Ibiza Airport (IBZ)

Warnings & Caveats

Smoking anywhere inside the terminal building (including all waiting areas, gates, and restrooms) is strictly prohibited under Spanish law. A fine of up to €200 applies for smoking or vaping in non-designated areas within the terminal. Vaping is subject to the same restrictions as traditional cigarettes indoors.

Ibiza Airport operates under Spain's strict indoor smoking ban, which means the entire terminal building is completely smoke-free, including check-in halls, waiting lounges, boarding gates, and restrooms. The only place you can smoke is in the designated outdoor areas immediately outside the terminal, accessible from both the Arrivals and Departures forecourts on the ground level.

Before Security

The outdoor smoking zones are located just outside the terminal building, in the forecourt areas at both the Arrivals and Departures sides. Look for the designated smoking area signs as you step through the sliding doors. These are open-air spots, so you are exposed to the elements. There is no indoor landside smoking room.

  • Departures forecourt: Step outside through the main entrance doors on Level 0 or Level 1 (Departures). The designated zone is marked with signage and ashtrays.

  • Arrivals forecourt: After collecting your bags and clearing customs, head outside through the exit doors. The smoking area is directly in front of the terminal building.

After Security

There are zero smoking facilities airside at Ibiza Airport. Once you pass through security on Level 1, you cannot smoke anywhere in the boarding area, near the gates (1-17), or inside the Cap des Falco VIP Lounge. The lounge itself (open 05:45-00:00 daily, entry fee of €40.85 for adults) does not offer a smoking room or terrace.

If you have a long layover or connecting flight and need to smoke, you would have to exit the secure zone, go outside to the designated outdoor area, and then go through security screening again. This is confirmed by multiple sources and is the only option available.

Vaping Rules

Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are treated the same as traditional cigarettes under Spanish airport regulations. Vaping inside the terminal is prohibited. You must use the outdoor designated smoking areas if you want to vape.

Transit and Layovers

If you are connecting through Ibiza, be aware that smoking mid-connection means exiting the secure zone entirely, smoking outside, and re-clearing security. Factor in extra time, especially during the busy summer season (April to October) when security queues can be long.

Bottom Line

Smoke before you enter the terminal or after you exit it. There is nothing airside, no lounge workaround, and no exceptions.
