Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH)

Kaohsiung International Airport (KHH) allows smoking only in designated areas, both landside and airside. The most important thing to know is that smoking is banned in all indoor public spaces under Taiwan law, so every smoking spot at KHH is either an outdoor area or a semi-open ventilated enclosure. The airport is compact and easy to navigate, which makes finding these spots straightforward once you know where to look.

Before Security

Landside, smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal buildings. There are no indoor smoking rooms on the public side. Head outside through the main terminal exits and look for marked smoking zones near the building perimeter. These are accessible to anyone, including arriving passengers and those who have not yet checked in.

After Security

Airside in the International Terminal, there are two confirmed smoking areas located near the departure gates. Both are semi-open, ventilated enclosures with louvered walls, wooden bench seating, and built-in ashtray stands.

• Near Gate 23 (East Wing): A semi-enclosed smoking room accessible from the main departure corridor. As of a May 2026 traveler report, this area is on a small slope up to doors at the corner turning toward Gate 23, and it is not clearly signed, so you need to look carefully. The duty-free shop is visible nearby as a landmark.

• Near Gate 29 (West Wing): A similar semi-open enclosure directly adjacent to the Gate 29 waiting area. The entrance is through glass doors with a green smoking symbol above them. The interior has louvered metal walls with hanging plants, a wooden bench ledge around the perimeter, a stainless steel ashtray stand, and a waste bin. A 2019 traveler report noted there were no signs at either location.

The domestic terminal no longer operates commercial flights, so it is not relevant for current travelers.

Vaping Rules

No specific vaping policy is published for KHH. Taiwan's Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act is strict about smoking in public spaces. Treat e-cigarettes and heated tobacco devices the same as conventional cigarettes and use them only in the designated smoking areas. Do not vape in the general terminal.

Warnings

Note that lighters may be confiscated at the security checkpoint. If you rely on a lighter, be aware of this before going through security.
