After Security
The airside situation has changed as of 2025. Older reports indicated that smoking was permitted in cafes and restaurants past security, but a May 2025 update from a traveler (Cectep) confirms those options are now closed.
There is currently one active smoking section airside: it is located at the far end of the departure hall, near Gate 12, close to the Islamic prayer room. Look for signage marking the zone fumeur (smoker zone). A photo submitted in 2025 shows a blue "zone fumeur" sign on a stand in this area.
Some traveler reviews on Yandex Maps (as recent as mid-2025) describe smoking as being "allowed almost everywhere" inside the terminal, but this appears to reflect informal tolerance rather than official policy, and should not be relied upon.
Vaping
No specific vaping rules for MIR are mentioned in any available source. Tunisia's general indoor smoking restrictions would logically apply, but travelers should treat vaping the same as smoking and use only the designated zones.
Transit and Layovers
This is a relatively small airport with a single terminal. If you are in transit, the airside smoking section near Gate 12 is your best option. There is a business lounge on site (recently opened, per late 2025 reviews), but no information is available about whether it permits smoking or has a dedicated smoking area.
