Smoking policy at Phnom Penh, Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH)
Warnings & Caveats
Vaping is banned throughout Cambodia. Do not use e-cigarettes or vaping devices anywhere in the airport. Smoking outside designated areas may result in fines under Cambodian tobacco control regulations. Domestic departures have no known airside smoking facilities as of the most recent reports.
Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH) has a limited but real smoking setup for travelers. Smoking is restricted to designated outdoor areas landside and a single smoking room airside in the international departures hall. Vaping is banned in Cambodia, so leave the e-cigarette in your bag.
Before Security
Landside, smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal building. There are no indoor smoking rooms before security. Head outside through the main entrance or departure drop-off area and look for the marked smoking zones. The airport is relatively compact, so getting back inside after a smoke should not take long, though you will need to re-clear security if you have already checked in.
After Security
International departures passengers have one confirmed option: a smoking room located at the far end of the international departures concourse, near Gates 9 and 10. This was confirmed by a traveler report in April 2023 and an earlier report from May 2018, both noting clear signage pointing to the room. The room sits at the end of the gate area, so allow a few extra minutes to walk there from the central part of the terminal.
Domestic departures: As of April 2018, there are no smoking facilities in the domestic departures area. No more recent reports have contradicted this, so domestic travelers should plan to smoke before entering the terminal.
Vaping Rules
Cambodia has a vaping ban in place. Electronic cigarettes and vaping devices are not permitted at the airport or elsewhere in the country. Do not attempt to vape in the terminal or in the smoking room.
Transit and Layovers
If you are transiting through PNH on an international itinerary, the Gate 9/10 smoking room in the international departures area is your best option airside. There are no reports of a dedicated transit smoking lounge. If your connection requires moving between domestic and international areas, be aware that the domestic side has no known smoking facilities.
Bottom Line
Smoke outside before you check in if you are on a domestic flight, since there are no airside options on that side. International passengers can use the smoking room near Gates 9 and 10 after clearing security.
