Warnings & Caveats
Smoking anywhere inside the terminals (including transit zones) has been banned since May 1, 2018. E-cigarettes and heated tobacco products are also banned inside all terminal buildings. E-liquid cartridges are subject to the 100 ml per container carry-on liquids rule at security. Customs officers at PRG may check tobacco import limits on arrival; the standard EU allowance for travelers arriving from outside the EU is 200 cigarettes per person.
Václav Havel Airport Prague went fully non-smoking inside its terminals on May 1, 2018, and that ban has held ever since. There are no indoor smoking rooms, no airside smoking cabins, and no designated smoking corners anywhere inside the buildings. The only way to smoke is outdoors, before security, at one of 14 designated spots in front of the terminal buildings. One limited airside exception exists, but it requires paid lounge access.
Before Security
The airport provides 14 designated outdoor smoking areas positioned in front of the terminal buildings on the landside. These are open-air spots, so you'll be outside regardless of weather. No specific gate numbers or precise addresses are published for each spot, but they are marked at the terminal entrances with signage and are accessible to anyone before check-in or after baggage claim on arrival.
All 14 spots are landside only, meaning once you clear security you cannot return to them without exiting the secure zone.
There is no published information on whether re-entry after a smoke break is permitted, so plan your last cigarette before joining the security queue.
After Security
Airside smoking is effectively off the table for most travelers, with one notable exception in Terminal 1.
Mastercard Lounge, Terminal 1 (non-Schengen): As of May 2025, this lounge has an outdoor smoking terrace with runway views. Access requires either a Priority Pass membership, a qualifying Mastercard, or a business class ticket. Walk-in access pricing was not confirmed in available sources, so check directly with the lounge before your trip. The terrace has tables, chairs, and ashtrays, and the views of the apron are reportedly excellent.
Terminal 2: No airside smoking option of any kind is available.
Vaping and E-Cigarettes
The indoor smoking ban explicitly covers e-cigarettes and heated tobacco products such as IQOS. You cannot vape anywhere inside the terminals. E-cigarettes are permitted in carry-on luggage but must be secured against accidental activation. If you carry e-liquid, remember the standard 100 ml per container liquid rule applies at security.
Transit and Layovers
If you are transiting through PRG and staying airside, you have no access to the outdoor landside smoking areas. Your only realistic option is the Mastercard Lounge terrace in Terminal 1 (non-Schengen), provided you have the required lounge access. Terminal 2 transit passengers have no smoking option at all.
Bottom Line
Smoke before you enter the terminal at one of the 14 outdoor spots out front. If you need a cigarette airside, your only option is the Mastercard Lounge terrace in Terminal 1, and you will need Priority Pass, a qualifying Mastercard, or a business class ticket to get in.
