Smoking policy at Jeju City, Jeju International Airport (CJU)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking outside designated areas in South Korea can result in fines. The indoor smoking room on the International Terminal 2F arrivals level is not listed on the official airport website, confirm on the ground before relying on it. Connecting international passengers must exit the terminal to smoke and re-clear security, which takes extra time.
Jeju International Airport (CJU) allows smoking only in designated areas, and the situation differs significantly between landside and airside. The most reliable option before your flight is to smoke outside the terminal in one of the designated outdoor or booth areas, but there are also a handful of airside spots if you know where to look.
Before Security
Smoking is not permitted inside the terminal building landside. All pre-security smoking must happen outside in designated zones. As of late 2024, several new smoking booths were installed across the airport grounds under a KT&G partnership:
Domestic Terminal, 1F near Gate 1: An outdoor smoking booth located roughly 150 meters to the left of Gate 1. Replaced and reinstalled in November 2024.
P1 Parking Lot: A new outdoor smoking booth in the large parking area, added November 2024.
P2 Parking Lot: Another new outdoor smoking booth along the pedestrian walkway, added November 2024.
Rent-a-Car House: An outdoor smoking booth opposite the No. 1 zone of the rental car facility, newly installed November 2024.
Cargo Terminal area: An outdoor smoking booth on the west side of the cargo terminal, replaced November 2024.
If you are connecting internationally and need to smoke between flights, you must exit the terminal into South Korea, smoke in one of the outdoor designated areas, and then re-clear security for your onward flight.
After Security
Airside options exist but require some navigation:
International Terminal, 3F near Gate 4: An outdoor smoking area (smoking booth) opposite Gate 4 on the third floor of the international terminal. Confirmed as of November 2024.
International Terminal, Gate 21-22 Indoor Smoking Room: An indoor smoking room near boarding gates 21 and 22 in the international departure area, accessible after passport control. As of February 2025, this is confirmed to be on the 2nd floor (earlier reports listed it as 3rd floor, so check signage on arrival).
International Terminal, 1F Gate 5 Outdoor Area: An outdoor smoking zone outside the building at the far right end near Gate 5 on the ground floor of the international terminal. Confirmed operational as of February 2025.
International Terminal, 2F Arrivals Indoor Smoking Room: An indoor smoking room in the arrivals immigration area on the 2nd floor of the international terminal. Note that this location is not listed on the airport's official website, so verify on the ground.
Food Court Terrace (Domestic, post check-in): A traveler report from August 2025 describes heading up the escalators to the food court area after check-in, where there is an open terrace overlooking the tarmac where smoking is permitted.
Older reports from 2018 mentioned a smoking room opposite Gate 2 in the international departure area, and a lounge-side smoke room past the duty-free zone. Some of these may have changed during refurbishment, so treat older information with caution and look for current signage.
Vaping Rules
No specific vaping policy for CJU was found in the available sources. South Korean law generally treats e-cigarettes similarly to tobacco in public spaces, so it is safest to use only designated smoking areas for vaping as well.
Bottom Line
Smoking is possible both before and after security at CJU, but the locations shift around and some older spots have closed during renovations. Head to the outdoor booths landside before your flight, or look for the Gate 21-22 indoor room or the Gate 4 terrace once you are through passport control.
