Smoking policy at Katowice, Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport (KTW)

Warnings & Caveats

Smoking is strictly prohibited throughout the terminal buildings outside of designated cabins and outdoor zones. Polish law bans smoking in all enclosed public spaces. The Terminal B airside smoking area has moved at least once (from 1st floor to Level 0 near Gate 25), so confirm the current location on arrival. The arrivals-area smoking cabin is a recent addition (reported May 2026) and may not yet appear on official airport maps.

KTW is one of the more smoker-friendly airports in Poland, with enclosed smoking cabins (palarnia) available airside in multiple terminals, not just outdoors before security. That said, the situation has changed several times over the years, so read the terminal-by-terminal breakdown carefully before you rely on any single spot.

Before Security

Landside, smoking is only permitted in designated outdoor areas outside the terminal buildings. There are no indoor smoking rooms in the public, pre-security zones. The SleepingInAirports guide confirms designated smoking areas are located outside Terminals A and B on the Ground Floor. If you are departing and want a smoke before heading through security, step outside the terminal entrance and look for the marked outdoor zones.

After Security

This is where KTW genuinely stands out among Polish airports. Several airside smoking cabins have been reported across the terminals:

  • Terminal A, near Gate 6 (Ground Floor): A glass-walled enclosed smoking booth. Turn left after clearing security and you will see it on your right. A small smoking room near the Voyage bar in Terminal A has also been reported, though the bar itself may no longer operate under that name.

  • Terminal B, Level 0, near Gate 25: A smoking area at the lowest level, confirmed by multiple traveler reports from 2022 and 2024. An earlier enclosed cabin for 4-6 smokers on the 1st floor near the gates was reported removed as of late 2021, with the current spot relocated to Level 0.

  • Arrivals / Baggage Claim (Terminal C area): A brand-new smoking cabin was reported in May 2026 by a traveler arriving at KTW. It is located in the baggage reclaim area, so arriving passengers can use it while waiting for luggage, before they even exit to the landside. This is a genuinely unusual and convenient addition.

Business Lounges

Three paid Business Lounges operate airside at KTW, all accessible by paying PLN 120 per person at the door, or via prepaid lounge passes and lounge membership programs (such as Priority Pass). Complimentary access is available for some airlines' Business Class and elite-status passengers.

  • Business Lounge, Terminal A: Airside, Schengen departures, near Gate 4. Open 04:30-21:00.

  • Business Lounge, Terminal C: Airside, Schengen departures, 2nd floor, near Gate 10. Open 04:30-21:00.

  • Business Lounge, Terminal B: Airside, Non-Schengen departures, near Gate 18. Open 04:30-21:00.

The sources do not confirm whether these lounges have dedicated smoking rooms or smoking terraces, so do not count on them as a smoking option unless you can verify on arrival.

Vaping Rules

No specific vaping policy for KTW is mentioned in the available sources. Polish law generally treats e-cigarettes similarly to tobacco in public enclosed spaces, so assume vaping is restricted to the same designated smoking areas unless signage at the airport says otherwise.

Transit and Layovers

If you are transiting through KTW and staying airside, the smoking cabins near Gate 6 (Terminal A) and Gate 25 (Terminal B, Level 0) are your most reliable options based on recent reports. The arrivals-area cabin is only accessible to arriving passengers in the baggage hall.

Bottom Line

KTW has real airside smoking cabins, which puts it ahead of most Polish airports. Head to Gate 6 in Terminal A or Gate 25 (Level 0) in Terminal B after security, and check the baggage hall if you are arriving.
