Smoking policy at Las Vegas, Harry Reid International Airport (LAS)
Warnings & Caveats
Smoking or vaping outside designated areas carries a fine of up to $1,000. You must stay at least 20 feet from all doors and windows when using outdoor smoking areas. Smoking is prohibited in all non-designated indoor spaces, including shops, walkways, and restrooms.
Harry Reid International Airport (LAS) is officially a smoke-free facility, but it stands out among major US airports because smoking is actually permitted in several designated spots, both landside and airside, thanks to Nevada's unique gaming lounge exemptions. If you smoke, you have more options here than at almost any other American airport, but you still need to know exactly where to go.
Before Security
Landside outdoor smoking areas exist at both terminals:
Terminal 1: Designated outdoor areas near the ticketing level and near baggage claim, ground floor. You must stay at least 20 feet from any doors or windows.
Terminal 3: Same setup, with outdoor areas near ticketing and near baggage claim on the ground level, again at least 20 feet from entrances.
These are the easiest spots to use if you haven't checked in yet or have just landed and collected your bags.
After Security
This is where LAS genuinely surprises. Enclosed gaming lounges past security are permitted to allow smoking under Nevada law, and the airport has several:
Terminal 1, Concourse B and C gates: Enclosed gaming lounges where smoking is allowed. These are glass-walled casino areas built into the concourse, accessible to any ticketed passenger.
Terminal 1, Concourse C gates: Barney's Lounge, a named smoking lounge at the concourse level. Access requires a boarding pass (standard airside access), no additional fee.
Terminal 3, Concourse D and E gates: Enclosed gaming lounges, same format as Terminal 1, open to ticketed passengers airside.
The Budweiser Racing Track Lounge is also cited as a smoking-permitted venue in the pre-security Esplanade area.
Vaping Rules
E-cigarettes and vaping devices follow the same rules as tobacco: permitted only in the designated smoking areas and gaming lounges listed above. Vaping in any other part of the airport, including regular gate seating, restrooms, or shops, is prohibited and subject to the same fines as smoking.
Transit and Layovers
If you're connecting through LAS and your gate is in Terminal 1 (B or C concourse) or Terminal 3 (D or E concourse), you can use the airside gaming lounges without leaving the secure zone. No need to exit and re-enter security just to smoke, which is a real advantage on a long layover.
Bottom Line
LAS offers more airside smoking options than almost any other major US airport, thanks to its enclosed gaming lounges at B, C, D, and E gates. Smoke before security at the outdoor areas near ticketing or baggage claim, or head to the nearest gaming lounge once you're through.
